She wears the braid every day and always, by lunchtime, the curls and ringlets of her thick mane have managed to escape in rebellious little tendrils. But she refuses to surrender to that hair of hers, and every morning, it goes back into the braid.

Before putting braids on:
1- Check up on your hair
If your hair is not clean, not moisturized, too weak, too brittle or just not in good conditions for you to put braids on, it will lead to more breakage and shedding once you wear it. And this protective style that was supposed to grow your hair could become your nightmare. Therefore, later on when you remove them, you will be facing the same problem or even more damages.
3- Make sure you Prep your hair for the braids by:
a)Cleaning your hair with a sulfate free shampoo and deep condition or do a protein treatment using a large tooth comb during the whole process to minimize breakage.
b) Before drying your hair you can either use the LOC or LCO method to moisturize your hair.
c) Dry your hair on the cool setting or use a heat protectant if you wanna use it on higher heat(which is not recommended)
d) Use oil or butters to moisturize hair as needed before putting the braids on.
e) Use light oil to keep the roots moisturized every 2 to 3 days. It’s also a good idea to use a light leave in conditioner to keep the ends moisturized as well.
After removing braids
a) Do a hot oil treatment or a prepoo before washing your hair
b)Clean your hair with a sulfate free shampoo
c)Deep condition your hair
d) Use a wide tooth comb to detangle your hair
e) Do the LCO or LOC method to moisturize your hair
f) Allow your hair to breathe before putting braids again.
